Instructions
Materials
- 4 mm crochet hook
- Double-knitting yarn in red and white;
- Twilley’s ‘Goldfingering’ for hanging loop. (This is a widely available 3 ply gold coloured thread);
Round 1
2 double–crochet in 2nd chain from hook.
1 double–crochet in next chain.
4 double–crochet in last chain.
Do not turn, but continue in same direction and work into the back loops of the foundation chain: 1 double–crochet in next loop.
2 double–crochet in last loop.
Join with a slip–stitch to first double–crochet. (10 stitches)
Round 2
Chain 1. 1 double–crochet in each of next 4 stitches.
2 double–crochet in next stitch.
1 double–crochet in each of next 4 stitches.
2 double–crochet in next stitch.
Join with a red yarn slip–stitch to first double–crochet.
Cut white yarn leaving a tail for darning. (12 stitches)
Rounds 3–7
Continue with red yarn. Chain 1. 1 double–crochet in each stitch around.
Join with a slip–stitch to first double–crochet.
Tip: darn in tails at the end of round 7.
Round 8
Chain 1. 1 double–crochet in each of next 5 stitches.
Do not fasten off red yarn, but draw up a long loop so that work does not unravel. (5 stitches)
Heel flap — 1
Join white yarn with a slip–stitch to next stitch.
Chain 1 and 1 double–crochet in same stitch.
1 double–crochet in each of next 6 stitches. (7 stitches)
Heel flap — 2
Chain 1 (turning chain: counts as 1 stitch). Turn.
1 double–crochet in each of next 6 stitches.
Heel flap — 3
Chain 1. Turn.
1 double-crochet in each of next 5 stitches.
1 double-crochet in turning chain of previous row.
Heel flap — 4
Chain 1. Turn.
1 decrease.
1 double–crochet in each of next 2 stitches.
1 end decrease. (5 stitches)
Heel flap — 5
Chain 1. Turn.
1 decrease.
1 end decrease. (3 stitches)
Heel flap — 6
Chain 1. Turn.
1 end decrease.
Fasten off white yarn. (2 stitches)
Continue round 8
Continuing with red yarn, work 8 double–crochet stitches evenly around heel flap.
Join with a slip–stitch to first double–crochet of round 8. (13 stitches)
Rounds 9–10
Chain 1. 1 double–crochet in each stitch around.
Join with a slip–stitch to first double–crochet.
Round 11
Chain 1. 1 double–crochet in each of next 6 stitches.
2 double–crochet in next stitch.
1 double–crochet in each of next 6 stitches.
Join with a slip–stitch to first double–crochet. (14 stitches)
Round 12
Chain 1. 1 double–crochet in each stitch around.
Join with a slip–stitch to first double–crochet.
Round 13
Chain 1. 1 double–crochet in each of next 5 stitches.
2 double–crochet in next stitch.
1 double–crochet in each of next 8 stitches.
Join with a slip–stitch to first double–crochet. (15 stitches)
Rounds 14–18
Chain 1. 1 double–crochet in each stitch around.
Join with a slip–stitch to first double–crochet.
Tip: change to white yarn with final slip–stitch of round 18.
Round 19 (cuff)
With white yarn chain 1.
1 double–crochet in each stitch around.
Join with a slip–stitch to first double–crochet.
Round 20
Chain 1. 1 half–treble in front loop of each stitch around.
Join with a slip–stitch to first half–treble.
Rounds 21–22
Chain 1. 1 half–treble in each stitch around.
Join with a slip–stitch to first half–treble.
Fasten off.
Making up
Turn cuff down.
Attach hanging loop of 3 ply gold thread to back of mini–stocking.
